Many people are still unaware that adult abuse exists in our society. Abuse is probably much more common than is generally acknowledged. It is imperative that anyone working with a vulnerable adult develops an understanding of what constitutes adult abuse and this is the main aim of this DVD.
Abuse can be inflicted on a person in all sorts of different ways; many of which are very subtle. Workers need to have knowledge about the six categories of abuse - physical; sexual; emotional/psychological; financial/material; neglect/acts of omission; discriminatory - which can happen in the community or in institutions.
The DVD can be used to introduce the subject of adult abuse to a wide range of workers across the sectors - statutory, voluntary and independent. Case studies are used to illustrate the different forms of abuse. The DVD also contains learning points, discussion questions and exercises.
