The case conference is a vital stage in the adult abuse investigation process. However, sometimes conferences are not convened as they should be. The aim of this DVD is to explain in a straightforward way the purpose of case conferences, how to convene and contribute to them successfully. The DVD is targeted at professionals and workers at all levels because anyone who works with a vulnerable adult may be invited to attend a case conference.
Workers can be confused about the difference between a strategy meeting and a case conference. This is explained clearly and the purposes of both forums explained. After discussing the purpose of a case conference, the video explains how a case conference is convened. This is done by looking at the tasks which need to be performed by the investigating officers together with the manager of the abuse investigation. Practical guidance is also given regarding the administration and facilitation of these conferences
Preparation is the key to good practice. The DVD looks at how to prepare both a worker and a victim for a case conference. It will demonstrate through simulations how a conference should be chaired, how workers should contribute relevant information to a conference and what behaviours are appropriate. The needs of the victim during a conference are also highlighted. The importance of risk assessment, the development of protection plans and review case conferences are also discussed.
This DVD can be used in conjunction with the DVD Investigating Adult Abuse (WAA3) or it can be used alone to help managers and workers contribute effectively to case conferences.
