This 2-DVD Set focuses on the abuse of older people both in the community and in other settings. Elder abuse was first recognised way back in the 1970s but even thirty years on the subject area still does not get the attention it deserves. The prime aim of this video set is to raise awareness about abuse amongst workers across the sectors who have any involvement with an older person.
An older person may be deemed to be a vulnerable adult so the video presents information regarding the important guidance from the Department of Health No Secrets (2000) and how workers should be aware of local multi-agency policies and procedures on vulnerable adults and adult abuse. Definitions and categories of abuse are discussed through the use of case studies, which illustrate the obvious forms of abuse as well as the more subtle ways in which abuse can be inflicted. Attention is also given to who can be a victim, who can abuse and the causal factors of abuse.
The 2-DVD Set contains case studies, learning points, discussion questions and exercises.
DVD 1 presents the theory regarding elder abuse and 5 case studies based in the community.
DVD 2 considers institutional abuse and presents 3 case studies in a care home.
